2023 BMW X7

The X7 xDrive40i is the entry-level model. It has 21-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlights, roof rails, a power dual-section tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof. The M50i has 22-inch wheels, blue brake calipers, an M Sport exhaust, and an illuminated front grille. The available Executive Package comes with a panoramic sunroof with embedding LED lighting, and BMW also offers stand-alone options such as 23-inch wheels and an upgraded trailer hitch. The Alpina XB7 has 23-inch Alpina wheels, an Alpina front spoiler, and a rear valance. It also comes with chrome accents to set it apart from the other trims.

Power for the xDrive40i comes from a 3.0-liter six-cylinder gas engine with 375 horsepower. The M50i gets a 4.4-liter turbo V-8 that churns out 523 horsepower and generates 553 pound-feet of torque. Both engines work with BMW's eight-speed automatic transmission and come with all-wheel drive. The Alpina XB7 has a specially tuned version of the turbo V-8 with 630 horsepower. It also uses an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All of the BMW X7 models use air suspension and adaptive dampers. The ride can be further improved with the optional rear-axle steering and active anti-roll bars that help to reduce body roll. When equipped, this BMW can tow up to 7,500 pounds.

The roomy interior has three rows of seats and a highly customizable interior with options for different leather upholstery and trims, including open-pore wood trim as an option and full Merino leather. It comes standard with multi-contour heated front seats, four-zone automatic climate control, and heated front armrests, but adding the Climate Comfort Package gets you ventilated front seats, heated front and rear seats, and five-zone automatic climate control.

Technology in the BMW X7 starts with a 14.9-inch infotainment touch screen, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and a 10-speaker stereo. Infotainment gesture control comes in the M50i, so you can control some climate and infotainment features by gesturing with your hands. This trim also has a 16-speaker stereo, but you can upgrade to a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound stereo with any model.

The 2023 BMX X7 comes standard with a long list of driver aids. These include a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high-beam headlights. The M50i adds a 360-degree surround-view camera system and an automated parking system. Adding the Driving Assistance Professional Package gets you adaptive cruise control, forward cross-path detection, lane-keeping assist, and collision detection with an automatic lane change assist feature.
